EEG

EEG or Electroencephalogram is a test to record the brain’s electrical activity. The test helps detect and record brain wave patterns using small electrodes placed on the scalp. EEG helps in diagnosing the following problems:

  • Epilepsy and Seizures
  • Sleep Disorders
  • Dementia
  • Stroke
  • Inflammation of the brain (Encephalitis)
  • Brain Death
  • Coma Monitoring
  • Head Injury

EMG and NCS

  • EMS is an Electromyography used to diagnose problems related to muscles and nerves. Whereas NCS refers to the Nerve Conduction Study, which is used to diagnose the problems in nerve function and signal transmission.
  • EMG can diagnose problems like muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis, radiculopathy, peripheral neuropathy, motor neuron diseases, trauma or injury, and so on.
  • NCS helps in diagnosing problems like carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar or radial neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, Guillain-Barre syndrome, trauma, compression disorder, and so on.
  • EMG evaluates the electrical activity of the muscles and the nerves controlling them while NCS evaluates the tome electrical signals travel through nerves.
  • The procedure of the EMG includes inserting the needle electrodes, recording the electrical activity of the muscle, recording during contraction, and assessment.
  • The procedure of NCS includes placement of electrodes, electrical stimulation, signal measurement, and repeat testing.
